Case Studies — Guth Laboratories
Our Customer:
Guth Laboratories, Inc. manufacturers units to detect alcohol levels in the blood stream. The product requires a plastic mouthpiece to protect the delicate testing equipment.
Their Challenge:
The mouthpiece was originally made by ultrasonically welding two different components. While a common practice, there was a better way.
Our Innovative Solution:
Crescent worked closely with Guth Laboratories, Inc. to redesign the mouthpiece so that two pieces of the same part could be ultrasonically molded together to create the final assembly. This innovative design:
• reduced inventory by stocking one part instead of two
• reduced the production cost per piece
• reduced material used by incorporating a hot runner in the new mold
• reduced product waste from inventory imbalances that occurred in production
• extended mold life and enhanced mold maintenance
The Result:
Guth Laboratories, Inc. has a more consistent, cost-effective production process.
"(Crescent developed) a true innovative design performing an outstanding manufacturing process."
